Removing /page/ from permalink

Is there any hack available to remove /page/ from a paged URL structure? for example
instead of
http://www.mydomain.com/page/9/i want
http://www.mydomain.com/9/OR
instead of
http://www.mydomain.com/mycategory/page/3/
