Remove time from post date

Hello,
I’m working on a site based on sandbox theme 1.6.1
I’d like to remove the time from the post dates so that it reads
October 23, 2011 instead of October 23, 2011 – 12:27 am
I’m new to php, so I’m worried that I’ll mess something up if I start playing with it.
