remove /category/ from sidebar links?

    You can replace it but you cannot eliminate it. See the Permalinks settings page in your admin panel (Options >Permalinks) for further explanation.

    Is there any further information on that? Is it not possible at all to remove “category” from static URLs?

    OR, is that what is meant by the “custom prefix for your category URIs” statement? Is so, it’s not particularly clear that this is for changing the word “category” from mod_rewritten URLs. Simply feedback.
