Go to appearance – widgets and look for ” ARCHIVES and META’ which widget they located at and remove them one at the time. It could be on the “Main” widget.
No, that doesn’t work. I’ve removed Archives and Meta from the widgets – I’ve even moved them to “inactive widgets”. They still appear on the right hand side of the bloody post. FFS.

Try adding an empty text widget to Sidebar and it will remove the default widget. 🙂

Thank you for your succinct solution―I had used a theme with the Meta menu activated automatically, then I changed themes.
In fact, I could no longer see the widget in the sidebar, but the Meta menu persisted in the sidebars.
When I put a Text widget in the sidebar, the Meta menu disappeared.
