Thanks for your report. The first thing to check is the “Existing Text” setting in the right-most column of the rule. The default value is “Keep” which will prevent the rule from overwriting any content already in place. Since WordPress 4.3 always fills in the Caption (as well as the Description) field, you must change this value to “Replace” for your rule to have any effect.

If that doesn’t resolve your issue, can you tell me what IPTC field(s) you are using and post a link to one of your images so I can investigate further?

I will leave this topic unresolved until you post an update. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

It has been a month since my last post in this topic and I have not seen any further updates. I assume the suggestion I made has solved your problem. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any further problems or questions about populating your Caption field with an IPTC/EXIF mapping rule.

Sorry for the late response, in fact, the issue remains, I still need to remove manually the caption of every image added.

Here’s the settings I have in place, synched with Lightroom for easy import.

Thanks for your update and for posting the screen shot; very helpful.

You wrote “Here’s the settings I have in place …“, but I do not understand the content of the code box just below that. Can you explain what it means?

Your screen shot shows the Standard Field rules. The Caption rule Data Source is the default “– None (select a value) –” IPTC selection and a blank EXIF value. This combination makes the rule inactive since no mapping values are selected/input.

If you want to delete the WordPress defaults and leave the Caption field empty, follow this advice from the “EXIF/Template mapping with Content Templates” section in the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab:

In the “Standard field mapping” table a special template:[+empty+] value supports deleting the content of the Title, Caption, Description and ALT Text fields. This value is also available in the Media/Assistant submenu table Bulk Edit area.

In you Caption rule enter template:[+empty+] as the EXIF value and set the Priority dropdown to EXIF.

I hope that gets you the results you need. If there is more to do, let me know.

    Thanks for the follow up.

My bad, I was trying to insert the screenshot as an image, not a link, please ignore the code.

I’ll test and update the post.

    Thank you!
