• I found someone else’s blog who was using wordpress and really liked the looked. I’ve been using blogger but have little control over there and thought I would come here. I asked a while back if I would have more control here and got given the answer that yes I would.

The only problem is that I am totally clueless right about now.

I have tried to follow your easy steps (your three easy steps, find a host, install wordpress…) but I’m getting nowhere.

I bought myself a domain name. I went over to HOSTICAN and registered and bought my 2 year subsciption. I have tried to install wordpress 3 times.

Now I don’t know what happens next. They (domain name people) told me three days and it would be working but if I put it in nothing is there and it’s a search error. It’s nearly been four days.

So do I need to wait until my domain name is up and running before I can install wordpress because so far I’ve had NO LUCK getting anything to run.

How will I know my domain name is up and running? What will be there? Who do I ask for help here? You guys, since I don’t have wordpress even installed yet? HostIcan…is this their problem? The domain company I got the domain name off?? I am SO LOST!

Someone please help me. I’ve been using computer’s for 7 years now. I consider myself a medium sort of computer savvy person, but my husband is a whizz and even he has no idea what we need to do here. It’s been driving us crazy for a couple days now and I’m affraid I’ve wasted $100 on something that is not going to work. All because I wanted more fonts to chose from!!

    WordPress boasts about being easy!

    Thanks

    Boo

  • @boo_77: Have you got someone to do the installation yet?

I just saw InstallForFree (suggested by “whooami”) is not doing installations at this time. If you still need help, just contact me (see contact info on my => http://georgeappiah.com/contact-george-appiah.html).

Sorry, I spent the day waiting in line for early voting (the US Prez elections.). It shot my whole day.

Boo, has Gappiah sorted you out? When it looked like The Hubby was making progress I removed my contact hints from my profile…

TO answer your DNS question, no, you’re not stuck waiting. There are ways to continue installing etc without using a domain name. It means going back and cleaning up, but it’s possible!

Apologies I have managed to post this twice – also ref to webdisc post

A lot of flaming on these forums so in trepidation I write that I have just started to get my head round WordPress for my first attempt at adding a blog to my own websites. My host is UK2net, who have a cpanel system for installing WP using fantastico at the root of my domain haddondavies.co.uk, so I installed as instructed and then came the ‘would you like to upgrade to 2.7.1?’ question. As I now have downloaded a UK2net webdisc , can I copy across all the files from the download folder direct into the appropriate webdisc folder on my desktop to effect the upgrade. I can see that the only file which seems to be unique to the folder on the webdisc is fantversion.php. I have searched support for this file and got here. What does it do? What is my next step? Can it possibly be that easy, while there is no content worth keeping? Finally, has anyone used Apple’s iWeb to create their sites and anaged to incorporate a WP blog page directly somehow? Thank you in nervous anticipation.
