I was trying to use the insert read more option in my posts so I can control where the text gets cut off but it didn’t work…how can I go about doing this?

    Thanks,

    MK

  • The read more is only for if your showing the “full post” it’s not for excerpts. If you want a custom excerpt use the custom excerpt box in your post settings. If you don’t see it click “screen options” and check the box for excerpt.

I guess I meant for the post summary not excerpt…I was trying to add the ‘read more’ after a paragraph so it doesn’t get cut off in the summary before the end of the paragraph, but it just adds the read more at the bottom of the entire post…and does nothing.

I just want to have some control over where the ‘read more’ link comes into play.

You should be able to add the read more tag wherever you want. Have you set your post summary to full?

I have no idea…how would I find that out?

For your blog page you would go to Theme Options > Page/Post Settings and set Blog Archive to Full.

Hmmm I did that, and it’s still not working.

When I set the cursor where I want to insert the read more tag…it just inserts it at the bottom of the post.

Even in the back-end it does this?

looks like the read more insert was just not working on that particular post for some reason…but works for other posts…weird.

actually, it didn’t work…I added the read more tag after a paragraph…but it still gets cut off in the middle of a sentence in that paragraph.

Can you post a link to your blog page?

Your home page is showing post excerpts.

The read more is only for if your showing the “full post” it’s not for excerpts. If you want a custom excerpt use the custom excerpt box in your post settings. If you don’t see it click “screen options” and check the box for excerpt.

Under the advanced settings I have changed it from excerpt to full post….but that didn’t work…and excerpt was already selected under screen options…

    Hey,
I don’t know what you mean with the “advanced settings”. Full post is a completely different single column layout like this:

As for a custom excerpt you can use the excerpt box in your post to write a custom excerpt. and that will be used instead of the first 34 words.

I tried that just now, and it didn’t change anything…weird.
