    Hi there!

    Have you tried using different themes? By activated “Read more” is this from a plugin?

    I ask about theme because some themes will use their own version of an excerpt by cutting the content rather than abiding to user input.

    Hi there

    You are right!

    The theme allows me to add excerpt to a specific Excerpt field. This solves the problem. Unfortunately, this Read more link is still displayed on the full text page. I wonder if the link can be removed?

    As I said it would depend on the theme. Try asking the theme’s author about that. Most of the free ones hosted on https://wordpress.org/themes/ have their own dedicated forum.
