If I uninstall WP and then reinstall it, is there a way to import all the posts/pages? Do I do that by restoring the database or is there another way?

  • What do you mean by “uninstall” if your posts are still there in the DB? – Deleting the files? Why would you do that? (just trying to understand what you want)

Well, I haven’t been able to fix the problem with my pages, so I figured I’d just uninstall the whole thing and start over. I don’t see any other alternative at the moment.

If certain thing don’t work sometimes it my be caused by corrupted files; and yes, files do get corrupted during download/unzip/upload. For that, you don’t need to re-install, just upload a fresh version of the WP files.

Id certain settings make your blog not to work as you wanted, those are in the database, so re-importing the database, brings back everything.

What is exactly the problem with your Pages (if we are talking about Pages)?

    Problem number one is here.

    Problem number two is here.

    Thanks moshu!

OK. for the second one: did you try to upload a fresh version (from a new download) of the wp-admin folder?

As for the first: All the Pages work – I don’t see any problem with them.

Yes, I did upload a new version. Still can’t get the editor to show up so I can actually write a new page.

As for the second, the pages work because I reupload my old .htaccess file, but whenever I tried to edit them, the .htaccess would rewrite itself, and the pages would display that error message again.

Sorry if I keep repeating myself.

Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole thing, then restored the database, and I’m back where I started. Pages are not being displayed, I’m getting the error message again.

    I’m out of ideas.

WOW. I FINALLY figured it out. It was the “Elegant Category (In)Visibility” plugin that was causing the whole problem. I deactivated it and now everything is working fine.

The thing is, it’s a useful plugin. Is there an alternative that works with WP 2.0? What it basically does is that it gets you to control what categories you want visible on the main page, and without, all of my posts are displayed on the main page.

Ah, you should have mention that earlier πŸ™‚
As you may know, even if Pages practically do not have categories, for internal technical reasons, they always belong to the “default” category. Don’t bother to understand (I don’t either πŸ˜‰ it’s just how things work.
Now, when using this category invisibility thing, by excluding – let’s say – the default “uncategorized” cat from the main blogpage, it will block all the Pages, too.

I know I found a workaround a long time ago… if I can remember it I’ll let you know.

I actually found another plugin that basically does the same thing, sans the whole blocking all the pages thing πŸ˜‰

It’s called Category Visibility and can be found here.
