• Thanks to an idiot hosting company, I need to reinstall WordPress. However, I need to do it without clearing my database, because (obviously) I don’t want to lose my existing content. I can’t download an XML file, because I can’t get into WordPress at the moment.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Then you really don’t want to reinstall–you just want to reupload the WordPress files to your host and make sure you have the correct database info in your wp-config.php.

See Uploading WordPress to a remote host.

Since you have “an idiot hosting company” I would not doing anything until I had a backup of my database. See WordPress Backups

Well I have uploaded all of the WordPress files again, but:

1.) if I type in /wp-admin I get told there is no wp-login.php file on the server, even though I can see it in the site’s root directory.

2.) If I try to use /wp-login directly, a screen which looks as though it is missing its style sheet comes up. I try to login anyway, only once again to be told that there is no wp-login.php file on this server.

    Backup EVERYTHING offline.

    Then delete everything EXCEPT:

    .htaccess
    wp-config.php
    /wp-content

Then re-upload everything from a fresh copy from this site.

    Somethings missing somewhere.
