    Hi!

This works great. It appears to have chosen five random posts. They appear in the Editor’s Choice sidebar at bitterempire.com.

The problem is, they seem to be the same five random posts – they don’t refresh or change.

Is this the way the plugin is supposed to work?

I have made sure to reinstall and reactivate the plug-in to make sure it wasn’t a fluke.

    Thanks!

I found the answer – nothing to do with this plugin. WP Engine disables orderby rand. Just in case anyone else from WP engine comes looking for the answer.

Thanks again for a great widget!

I am using the plugin as well, but it only seems to select post from the last year or year and a half. I would like it to select post from the beginning of time until now.

    Joline,

Is there any way to enable orderby rand on WPEngine? I am stuck with the same issue!

    Hey everyone,

You can order by rand by enabling it via the WP Engine plugin in your WordPress dashboard. Disclaimer that this can cause performance issues via MySQL

    Hi,

I’ve just installed this on a client’s site where I wish to display 1 random post from a category, which on refreshing page displays a new random post from the same category: it is a series of Plant ID’s with title, thumbnail and description.

But currently it does not change on refreshing. It stays the same post.

I cannot find the above WP Engine plugin (WP Engine seems to just come up as a hosting solution?)..

I am using a Colourlib theme called Sparkling.

Here is a screenshot of the widget settings I have used: http://i62.tinypic.com/2wmfllj.png

I have resolved the issue – it was a conflict of plugins… I was also using the Simple Custom post order plugin, which was overriding the orderby rand..

Now using Intuitive Custom Post Order plugin, as it enables custom ordering of posts via drag and drop but doesn’t override the random order of this plugin..

    Nice!
