Question about Categories Widget

I was trying to use the categories widget to have a couple main catergories on different parts of my blog . but when I use the widget to create a new one and i place it in the footer for example . I get the same categories that are on the side bar , is there a widget or plugin that I can use to have certain categories in my footer and not on the side bar ?
