Publishing Instead of Saving

    Hey Guys…. There’s a good chance that I’m starting to lose my mind, but I thought I’d check in here with the experts.

    After 5 years of using WordPress weekly, I’m having a problem that I don’t know how to troubleshoot. When I save ‘drafts’ or even ‘pending review’ posts, occasionally the post will be published.

    At first, I thought it was my user error just working too quick. But, just today, I was watching my cursor and making very clear, precise movements while setting a post to ‘Pending Review’. I went to a different screen in the Admin Panel, came back to the post and it had already published.

    I tried Googling, but I don’t even know what to Google for because it seems so crazy.

    Anyone have any ideas at all?

    What plugins do you have installed? Any that are related to post management.

    Hey Tim,

    I have a whole bunch of Plugins installed, the only directly related to post management would be ‘Public Post Preview’. However, I’ve had that installed for a long time with no problems.

    I did recently install and then uninstall a plugin that was supposed to give me a third option in addition to ‘Draft’ and ‘pending review’, but didn’t work the way I wanted so I uninstalled it.

    Is there a chance that the uninstall didn’t full rid my site of some small morsel that it left behind? I don’t know of a ‘defrag’ type service for WP. Is there such a thing?

    Possibly, the way plugins provide extra states is at times a bit of a hack i.e statuses in the drop down list, are really place holders for other types of statuses. It could be when you uninstalled that it caused some issues. Which plugin was it?

    If you just activate the plugin again, does it resolve the issue?

    Hey Tim,

    I no longer have the plugin installed, so I’m not able to reactivate. Unfortunately I don’t remember the name either. I also had a plugin installed that allowed me to share a public preview of a post, and I have uninstalled that and deleted as well. Unfortunately the issue persists.

    I’m totally at a loss for what else to try.
