Hey guys, i'm having the same problem...

    Take a look at this:
    http://hairwegoproducts.com/all-images/images-celebrity-hair/pictures-of-hayley-williams-signature-red-hair/

Also...Alex, how can we downgrade if the newest version updated the database? I'm afraid to try that.

check the permalink structure : /%category%/%postname%/ but it works for me fine, so no idea where to look & start... if someone has a test blog where I can debug it more in-depth, please contact me by mail.

If someone would like to downgrade, delete the plugin folder and load an older version from here :

    Alex,
By using your permalink structure: /%category%/%postname%/ all is working as it should. Shows properly now.
    Thanks,
    Peter

It would be nice, for me however, if I would be able to just use the permalink structure of just /%postname%/. Any ideas on this? It must be something in how you've coded the permalink structure for nextgen??

    Similar problem here.

I wanted to use tagcloud, but with my /%postname%/ permalink structure it doesn't work well.

    My setup was:
    1. permalink structure /%postname%/
    2. image browser enabled
    3. tagcloud used on a page (not a post)

Result: 404 errors - Page Not Found

When I changed the permalink structure to any different (one of the default ones, or /%category%/%postname%/ or even /post/%postname%/, the tag cloud started to work (partially): clicking on a tag from the cloud redirected to a dynamically generated gallery of pictures marked with this tag, but then clicking on a thumbnail didn't show the image browser (new page opened but with no image browser).

    So I changed it to:

    1. permalinks disabled (default links structure, you know, the one with question marks)
    2. image browser enabled
    3. tagcloud used on a page (not a post)

Now everything worked like charm - tag cloud worked, clicking on a tag redirected to a gallery of tagged pictures, and clicking on a thumbnail opened a working image browser.

    And tried another version:

    1. permalinks enabled (set to /post/%postname%/)
    2. image browser disabled (shutter effect chosen)
    3. tagcloud used on a page (not a post)

Now things work fine again - pictures open properly in the shutter.

But when I changed it to image browser - it was wrong again...

I think it must be easy to replicate, because it doesn't seem to be a plugin conflict but some kind of a problem with permalinks, tags and image browser...

I had worst problems with /%postname%/ type permalinks, and with permalinks disabled things work best.

    Hello,

I've also noticed a problem with pagination-permalinks-404error problem after upgrade (1.7 worked fine with the same conf.) Now i've turned off pagination (i've made upgrade on working site ;) and it looks fine, but we know it is not.

    http://www.socharska.pl/pl/galerie-zdjec-slubnych/przygotowania/

The second problem after upgrade that i've noticed is
option->General Options->activate permalinks -> Gallery Slug name - no matter what you put there - it ich changed to "nggallery"

No idea what to do, i hope there will be quick bug fixing path or upgrade ;)

    I can confirm it.

I had to disable pagination, because it was giving me 404 error on pages other than the first one.

Also no matter what slug I define, it always remains "nggallery"

No way i'm changing my permalink structure. That would be an SEO nightmare.

I advise that other wordpress users don't do that either. Just wait for alex to fix things.

I updated and got the 'not found' error. Then I went into my FTP to downgrade to the 1.7.4 and now the same 'not found' error is coming up. Please help!

My website is http://www.studiomme.com. It's the illustration page that is down.

    @studiomme

Resolution for now: turn off pagination and ... wait ;) we all hope that Alex will work on that. So, we should consider a donation issue ;)

Also for me after the upgrade is impossible to view the galleries.

What can I do to solve it ? When I see the URL on hover the album I see the correct URL but when I click it always redirect me to the Album Page.

@BartPloom, Thank you! I re-upgraded and re-saved the page with the permalink info. This time it worked! Now I can see my photo pages but the images are HUGE and of terrible quality. Anyone else have the same issue or have any idea how to fix it? Under 'Options' it says they're supposed to resize to 800 x 600 pixels at 100% quality but they have to be almost 3000 pixels wide.

I did not this post at first.

    WordPress 3.1.3
    Previuos version of next-gen gallery : 1.7.4

After upgrading to ver 1.8 I am encountering the following issues:

    1. Selecting a gallery links from an album pages using the short code [album id=2 template=extend] do not display the gallery but instead display the "page can not be found".

Here is an example page http://www.aacabosh.org/galleries/club-events/

    2. Post which have an inserted gallery image which links to the gallery of the image do not display the image but instead display the "page can not be found"

Here is an example of this issue (if you click the image you will get a page not found - the link for the image in the post is http://www.aacabosh.org/nggallery/page-154/album-2/gallery-40/ : http://www.aacabosh.org/shows/june-5-2011-bosh-at-buffalo-township-community-day/

I downgraded the version of next-gen gallery back to v1.7.4 and restored my database and my gallery links worked again.

If I disable "Activate Permalinks" then the links to galleries from album pages will work but links to galleries in posts based on the "old" gallery url (such as http://www.aacabosh.org/nggallery/page-154/album-2/gallery-40/) still do not work.

I do not have pagination enabled.

Any ideas on how to correct/update the database so that these links work correctly?

Just check a bit more in depth, NextGEN Gallery 1.8.0 with activated permalinks(!) doesn't support all kind of permalink structures :

    The three default structures :

    Day and name (/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/)
    Month and name (/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/)
    Numeric (/archives/%post_id%)

should be fine. Custom structures are a bit more tricky and can be end in an error 404. The simple structure (/%postname%/) cannot currently used, as it redirect the post name as page name (my fault, didn't tested it good enough)

    Solution :

    a) Stay on Version 1.7.3, which should be fine
    b) Change your permalink structure ( The SEO Nightmare)
    c) Deactivate just the Gallery permalinks (See gallery settings)

I'm looking into this, but it will take more time and I'm not sure if I will get a final solution for all kind of combinations. Thanks for your understanding.

Even with the custom links mine is now working. But the size of the images is HUGE and pixelated. Do you have any advice for fixing this?

    Same problem here...
    WordPress 3.1.3
    next-gen gallery : 1.8.0

    My structure is /%category%/%postname%/

Permalinks don't work for paged gallery: either end into the main gallery page, or into a post with similar name...

BTW, thanks anyway for this great plugin;-)

    I've the same prob

    I've installed NExtGen 1.8 --> doesn't work than I downgraded to 1.7.4 --> doesn't work

    Has someone an idea?

After I downgraded back to NextGen 1.7.4 I had to restore my SQL database for WordPress from backup, which then restored the old permalinks to match version 1.7.4

I had the same issue @joernber. I re-installed NextGen 1.8 and then simply 'saved' the permalink page. It solved the problem, although now my images are gigantic! Hope that helps!

    Hello again,
I've just made an update to 1.8.1. I've set "Number of images per page" on 15 but still can see all images in gallery. I cannot see pagination, maybe i'm doing something wrong.

What are proper steps to set up pagination in gallery?
Do you have the same problem maybe?

    my examlple: http://www.socharska.pl/pl/galerie-zdjec-slubnych/przygotowania/

    Best Regards

I have the same problem, and hopefully we can find an answer soon. I have one pissed of client whose whole site is based off of image galleries and I have had to take his site down since this thing has broken it.

There is no need to take down a site, if you read my above post

    @Alex,

Hi Alex, you wrote about 3 possible permalink structures that should work. Does it mean that (/%postname%/) structure will not be supported by NexGenGallery anymore? It is propably important information for those of us who got this kinda link.

BTW - Great work, i appreciate this ;)
