Problems uploading images

    When I go to upload an image the browser says ‘crunching’ and then this message appears:
    Unable to create directory /home/painted/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    I’m new to this so any help would be great appreciated.
    The file is 604 by 453 pixels.
