Problem with my wrapper

Hello there! I’m having a little trouble that one of you fine people might be able to help me with. I’m currently working with the TwentyTen theme and would like to position my navigation bar outside (above) my wrapper.

I would like a navigation bar above the long advert, but I want the width to be about 10px wider at each side so there are no white spaces. But if I position my nav bar inside the wrapper it automatically gets pushed in like the rest of the content on the page.

How do I get around this? I realise I’m not the best at providing explanations, so if you need additional details just ask. Thanks for any help you can provide, I’ve been here before and you’re all brilliant. 🙂
