One thing to look at would be your version of Blogger? I haven’t done an import from Blogger, but the WordPress documentation says that:
If you haven’t already, you must be using New Blogger and a Google Account on Blogger. If you are still using Old Blogger, the importer will not work.
I have the new blogger and the google account.

Good Luck!
You could try a converter app, like Blog2Blog, or if worst comes to worst, you could use an intermediary like Drupal.
I think Drupal has support for just about every CMS and blogging platform, you could import your blog into Drupal, and then import it into WordPress. But that should really only be necessary for pesky old webware, like PHP-Nuke.
Do you have access to a different server? I would try importing your Blogger account into a different install of WordPress on different server, or try to import it into a WordPress.com account. If that works, then you know the problem is with your current WordPress setup.
Hell, you could even try using WordPress.com as an intermediary. Create an account and import your blog, if that works, you can easily move it over to your own install of WordPress!
I have two blogs on blogger that I have been maintaining since 2004. There are over 700 posts in total.
I now wish to setup a wordpress blog on my own domain and server. I Tried without result to directly use the Blogger import feature. When I click on Grant Access during the authorization process I kept getting the following error:
Could not connect to https://www.google.com
There was a problem opening a secure connection to Google. This is what went wrong:
The operation completed successfully.

Version 2.8.3
So I decided to teporarily create a blog on wordpress.org. On wordpress.org the direct import went smooth. Now I have to move all that content into my own server.
The problem I am facing is that the my blog is in Unicode which makes the file size much larger than conventional ASCII text. The XML file from Blogger is about 20Mb and there is now way to upload 20Mb into the server. I also don’t know How I can split the WordPress XML file so I can import them in parts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
