• Does anyone know if there is a problem with saving a post as a draft or trying to publish?

My blog was working fine but now it wont save the post or allow me to publish, there doesn’t seem to be any other problem with it.

    Can anyone help?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

Already tried deactivating plugins and using default theme, no change in the error. I dont have any inactive plugins.

If I re-upload the wp-admin and wp-includes, will I lose any of my work?

No. Your post and page content is stored in your database. And as long as you stay away from the wp-content folder, you won’t over-write any theme customisations either.

Even though you don’t normally have any inactive plugins, it might still be worth resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. You could have a bad (currently active) plugin whose effects aren’t being negated by simply deactivating it. The folder reset (especially using the phpMyAdmin method) is the surest way of killing all plugins dead.

    I am getting a message:

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

When did that start? What did you do immediately before that message appeared?

I tried to publish a post, I deactivated the plugins and changed to the default theme. When I new this wasn’t the cause, I tried to publish. I haven’t touched any files, didn’t delete anything or move anything, so the blog is just the same.

The heading of the post is being saved and can publish but not the actual content of the post.

I have been in touch with GoDaddy for help but they cant as its a wordpress blog and they only host it.

The main problem seems to be saving the post.

Is this happening with a specific posts or with more than one?

All posts. I have managed to publish a post, but it has taken me over five hours to do so. I can only type a few words at a time so it autosaves, but it doesn’t always work.

I’ve been having the same problem since upgrading to the latest version. Did all the usual stuff w/ plugins and themes, none of which had changed since publishing worked before the upgrade. But publish ALWAYS takes me to the error “Your attempt to edit this post: “[whatever the title is]” has failed. Please try again.” The only way I can publish is to wait for it to autosave a draft, go to the edit posts page, use the “edit” command to open the post, and then “publish” goes through just fine.

I’m not on GoDaddy and I am having trouble seeing it as a hosting problem since, you know, it worked moments before the upgrade. And yes, I even repeated the whole upgrade manual upload, just to be sure.

What interests me is that this error happens so quickly–I know that there hasn’t been more than a very brief interval to contact the hosting server, and I wonder if that’s the problem, that it’s not allowing enough time to make the request and be answered.

I dont think it is the hosting server, GoDaddy emailed saying the fault or error is within WordPress and they are the only ones who can fix it. I sent an error report to WP, but still waiting for a response.

There seems to be something missing in the autosave, it just doesn’t work.

So what do we do in the meantimeIf WP wont respond? I already lost an entire blog about a month back with over 100 posts.

I’m not sure we’re having the exact same problem, even though the errors affect the same sort of tasks. In my case, autosave eventually captures the completed post and then if I reopen it from the edit posts list, I can publish from there so long as I don’t change anything (if I do, it again fails).

My posting frequency is low enough that this isn’t unbearable, but if it gets too tedious, I may just roll back my upgrade to an earlier version even if it’s less secure and then hope that the next release straightens things out again. For you, losing stuff entirely, I’d say backing up the database and giving serious consideration to a rollback might be the only practical way around this particular roadblock since so few of us seem to be affected and that means it’s unlikely to get WP’s attention.

I have been checking in the forum for solutions, and its a very common problem.

Do you know if I re-installed wp 2.9.2 would I lose all the content and comments? Was going to try the re-install from the amin area, but not sure about it.
