I am wondering is using the name of the page as a category is a mistake?
Yes, that doesn’t work. You can’t put posts on a static page without coding a custom template or using a plugin.
Perhaps try:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/posts-in-page/
I changed the names of the categories, but that didn’t change anything. Unrelated posts still on pages.
Downloaded the suggested plug in and followed directions but can’t figure out how to make it work.
Feeling pretty dumb right now.
I have figured out the ID and was able to link the post to the page “sort of”! The formatting is not correct and the copy is only 55 characters or so. When the continue reading link is hit it goes to a page that loses the visual content of the page I want used.
I still have unrelated content on the specific pages. It appears that all blog entries are hitting all of the 42 pages.
Could you post a link to your site? Also, let’s maybe start from the beginning as to what you want to happen on your site? We might be making this more complicated than it has to be :).
Okay, so how do your want the site set up? Are you using a custom menu – and have you tried putting category items in the menu (vs. pages)?
And is this theme unmodified? It’s also possible that a plugin may be causing problems, so you could also try deactivating them.
I want to be able to post to a specific page. In other words, if I report sales in Banyan Cove, I want the post, “recent sales in Banyan Cove” to show up on the Banyan Cove page.
I tried the custom menu making the category a sub-set of the page. I also tried the plug in you recommended, but still had unwanted posts on the page.
I have not modified the theme as I haven’t a clue how to do it. π
I do have way to many plug ins that I also don’t have a clue what they do.
So using categories in the menu is designed to do exactly that. You don’t need Pages to put posts on them. It’s a bit confusing because (static)pages in WordPress isn’t the same as generic webpage.
If you have pages named the same as the category menu items you want, remove those pages from the menu – they’ll confuse you.
Check that the posts only have the one category assigned to them.
If you have plugins activated that you are not using, deactivate and/or delete them.
The pages are each unique and contain a graphic I want to display above the posts. Somehow the graphic needs permanence
By experimenting with different settings, I discovered that the template had been changed from the default to the showcase. By returning to the default I was able to eliminate all of the posts showing up. I then copied the specific posts to the specific page I wanted. These two changes have solved the main issue.
Additionally I have changed the template to twenty twelve which seems to give me a better look.
