Hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but…

I published my post a few hours ago and realised that it isn’t coming up in any of the WP readers. I haven’t overused tags/categories, so have no idea why it isn’t showing up? People received my post via email, it just hasn’t come up in any of the readers. I have never had this issue before, so I’m not sure what’s going on?

Can anyone help with this issue? I wrote on the WP.com forum but have had no reply.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Do you mean the WordPress.com Reader?

What’s the URL of your site?

    Hi James,

Thank you for getting back so promptly. I am referring to the WP reader, yes.

My website URL is http://www.insidethelifeofmoi.com/ The post I am having issues with is called “Oh. Not Valentine’s Day Again!” (http://www.insidethelifeofmoi.com/2016/02/15/oh-not-valentines-day-again/)

I first posted it around quarter to 8 (UK time) and soon realised that it wasn’t coming up in any of the readers, so I tried again an hour or so later (rescheduled it) – still didn’t work.

One thing I should mention is that I changed the URL before posting it … It was originally under a different title (but I changed the blog title last minute) I’m not sure if this would have impacted in any way? And if so, is there a way of resolving it – so it can be seen in the reader?

I have no idea what the issue is? This is the first time I’ve had problems with my posts coming up in the reader.

Ok, are you subscribed to the blog in the WordPress.com Reader?

Jetpack-powered WordPress.org blogs don’t appear in the WordPress.com Reader’s public listings, they only appear if you are subscribed to the blog via the Reader, and they do not appear in real-time. It can take as much as 24 hours for posts from subscribed Jetpack-powered WordPress.org blogs to appear in the WordPress.com reader.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com

Oh, I see. I assumed that if I tagged my posts it would come up in the WP readers (but I assumed wrong) This doesn’t matter so much. I just want my subscribers to see it.

The thing that has confused me is that usually the post comes up in the reader straight away after I post, but this time, it hasn’t come up in the reader at all. When I checked the stats on the post, it seems that not many people have been able to find it, only via those who follow my blog via email.

I just wondered if there was a reason why it hasn’t come up in the reader? Or does this just happen sometimes?

    Thanks for your support.

Okay… I’ve just checked again. It’s in the reader now. I think it took about 14 hours or so to show up.. which means lots of people have missed it or haven’t checked it.

    Thanks for clearing things up.

Yes, the WordPress.com Reader doesn’t have the same connection to Jetpack blogs as it does to WordPress.com blogs, so rather than being directly informed of new posts (and thus displaying them immediately), it has to check the blog for new posts directly (and only does this a few times each day).

Thank you for clearing things up.

One last question; Are there specific times when WordPress.com check the for new blog posts? 7.00 UK time seems to work well and usually shows up straight away. I don’t want to make the same mistake as last time and post at the wrong time.

    Thanks again for your help.

No, the time varies on a variety of things, and the amount of checks per day varies on the amount of followers the site has (more followers = more frequent checks).
