• Hi everyone,

It’s been over a month that I’m having issues with the language switcher option (represented by names of languages and their respective flags). Each language as its own pages translated and they are all connected to each other (e.g.landing page in English connected to the one in French). I have set up English as my main default language. However, when people type my domaine name “www.fitaspiration.com”, they are directly sent to “www.fitaspiration.com/fr/acceuil” (which is my home page for French speaker), instead of the Home page of my English website version (set up to be the directory “home page”). I have tried in “incognito browsing” and to connect myself from different computers (IP different) but the issues remain the same. Also, and the most annoying is that when people click on the English flag to access to English version of my site, the website remain in French, which means the English version of my website remains inaccessible to the public.

I’m using “Elementor page builder” and use “Oblique theme” on my website.

If someone could help me out it would be amazing as I do need my website to work on both languages.

    Many thanks,

    Lucie.

  • I’m also experiencing an issue with the menu language switcher’s behaviour broken as well on several sites. Usually when it should go to the other language version of a page/product/post etc it just goes back to the home page of the chosen language. Yes the setting to not display untranslated pages is set, so it didn’t go where it’s supposed to…

    Hello,
I am experiencing the same problem as @oclair. I create pages in different languages and after I try to associate them one-to-another bu either it can’t be saved (Classic Editor) or it is saved in Gutenberg the corresponding translation doesn’t show on frontend – it goes to homepage.
What it means it can not be saved: I edit page and link a page in different language to current page in section Language. When I try to Save or Publish the page the titles of corresponding pages are disappearing and in section Language. Sometimes they stay after save but if I edit the page again the titles in Language section disappear.

Tried to switch all the plugins apart from Polylang but no effect. Don’t know where to search.
Before it was OK, but the problem appeared in similar time as the problem of @fitaspiration about one month ago. Maybe it appeared together with the upgrade to WordPress 5

OK, it is not Polylang issue:
For me the problem was in other plugin in Lingotek ver. 1.4.1, whis is not compatible apparently with WordPress 5.
I had also strange problems with deactivating this plugin in WordPress multisite network – it was not enough to deactivate it in Network Admin but I had also to deactivate it in all network pages separately. Looking for this took me about 6-8 hours 🙁

If a plugin deactivated at network admin level is not showing Delete option it means iot is still active in sites. After deactivating it on all the pages the option Delete showed up in network Admin level plugin administration page.

As I recall Lingotek was installed by Polylang….

    Hello,

As I recall Lingotek was installed by Polylang….

Polylang doesn’t install any plugin. Polylang includes an advertisement for the Lingotek translation addon to allow you to use machine translation or professional translation. But Polylang doesn’t force you to install it. You can check yourself that the number of active installs is not the same for the 2 plugins.

It’s nice to see a post from the developer as the free version of Polylang acts as an advertisement for the paid versions.

Well if those sites updated WordPress to 5x they may also be broken…
