Funny I visited the forum to post the same problem 🙂
We have this problem for several month now and we tried every setting in WP supercache.
This is what I do:
1. I remove the cache file(s) for some page using FTP
2. I visit that page
3. I get a white screen and after hitting F5 the page loads
4. It happens only from time to time, sometimes more often.
The strange thing is that cache file exists at the white screen shows up.
My hosting provider asked me to post this here with the question if this issue happened before and is there maybe a solution?
I noticed that the site above (secureinfo) is hosted on the Godaddy cluster, my site is hosted on some premium cluster by a dutch hosting provider.
Anything in your PHP error log? Look for ob_start – maybe something is doing output buffering of some sort? Do you have zlib output compression enabled in your php.ini?
Hi Donncha,
there are actually no errors, not in the php error log or inside the apache error log file.
But… I’m using output buffering for some code cleanup, is this a problem?
If yes why does it happen only from time to time? I can’t force this problem it just happens somtimes. How the about the cluster hosting is there a relation?
Thanks!
You’re using a cluster of servers? Chances are it’s happening on one server only then. It could be the output buffering you’re using but I can’t tell you exactly what’s happening.
yes the site is hosted on a cluster. Is there a way to find out where the problem is? (I can’t skip the output buffer)
I checked the site before on a second server (VPS) and didn’t have these problems.
HI .. i followed one of the forum suggestion to delete the WP_CACHE define from wp-config.php. It looks like `define( ‘WP_CACHE’, true ). It worked for some time; but the pulgin re-wrote the code back in wp-config.php file.
I am now trying out W3 Total Cache.
Exactly the same problem on my side too. When I open any page on my site its loaded for 20-30% only (I checked page info in firefox and as I can see only 12-14kb loaded from 46-50kb total page size). But when I click F5 (refresh page) all loaded successfully… My debug:

I believe the issue has something to do with Expired cached pages, unless deleting expired pages is just the same thing as deleting cached pages. I did not setup/configure Garbage collection, but logically if the issue has to do with expired cached pages then maybe configuring garbage collection would take care of the issue.
Also I noticed this on one of my sites. I was seeing a blank page when not logged in as an Admin, but when I was logged in as an Admin the page displayed fine. Will gather more clues to isolate the issue. Thanks.
WP Super Cache Advanced Tab:
Add here strings (not a filename) that forces a page not to be cached. For example, if your URLs include year and you dont want to cache last year posts, it’s enough to specify the year, i.e. ’/2004/’. WP-Cache will search if that string is part of the URI and if so, it will not cache that page.
Ok so I added a string filter to not cache that particular website page and that worked out perfectly fine. And of course setup Garbage collection.
I have another page that occaissonally shows blank and I am thinking it might be caused by the fact that it is the home page for the site and has a sticky post on it.
Example:
Home page is /example-blog
Home page has a Sticky post with ID 297
So what I am trying next is to use the same logic above and have created a string filter for /297/
Other than this one minor issue everything is great!
The string filter appears to be working perfectly for sticky post ID 297 on the Home page. 😉
Blank page also here, since I installed the plugin.
I do not recommend W3 Total Cache. It was very troublesome for us.
