Plugin suggestion request

Hi!

I looking for a plugin / hack that can create content boxes / content blocks on the homepage of my website that links to the actual content in the forum / blog. Example – http://goo.gl/dXCv20

The problems with the current set up are :

The plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/boxer/

1. is out dated (Last Updated: 2012-11-10), author is not providing support for even pro version.
2. is not responsive (very important)

I want some more lively boxes that can respond (may be slight color change) when someone hovers over them.

is there any other plugin / hack available that can do the same thing?
