Hi,
that is a very question and I would say that the Post specific settings for iTunes (in the podPress box below the post editor) are exactly what you are looking for. Also the default setting for the iTunes:summary of the posts is “Use Post Excerpt”.
But you are right the iTunes summary contains always of the post content (or at least a shorter version of it).
You have discovered a bug. Thank you for your question and the report!
I’m going to fix that and report back.
Regards,
Tim

In the mean time you could post the version without HTML elements as a custom value of the iTunes:summary (Post specific settings for iTunes).
This part of the plugin is very old and I believe other users paste their iTunes summary as such a custom value.
But I still think that if the other option is named “Use Post Excerpt” then podPress should insert the excerpt of a post and not only the first 4000 characters of the content of the post.

I have added a bug fix to the current Development Version.
podPress will use the excerpt of a post (if there is one) as the iTunes:summary and 255 characters of it as iTunes:subtitle. If a post has no excerpt then podPress takes automatically the post content (or the first parts of it).
I would appreciate it if you could test this Development Version. But backup your data base first!

Tim
Thank you! I will install the development version and will report back on the results.
Thank you for your work; the iTunes feed has been refreshed and it displays only the excerpts.
