[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Missing description under thumbnails
-
Just updated to Nextgen-Gallery 1.0.1 have no idea how to enable description under thumbnails. Please let me know if you have solution. Thank you!

OK. I upgraded to the latest version of Gallery. I’m able to save captions again, but they’re still not showing under the thumbnails. I verified the customizations in both files are correct (I actually copied the full files from the backup I made of my whole WP file before I upgraded that the last time.), and there doesn’t seem to be any new instruction for the new version of gallery. So, what am I missing? I want my descriptions back!!
I have a sort of odd problem, under every thumbnail, the text
< ?php echo $image->size ?> />
pops up. If I name a thumbnail “Blue Boat”, the caption will be:
< ?php echo $image->size ?> /> Blue Boat
I would guess that this would be coming from the gallery-caption.php file, and I did find that exact wording in there, and removed it, yet it still pops up under every thumbnail.
Any ideas?
Thanks for all this – got my descripts up and working…
I would like to be able to use the <b> tag for sections of the descriptions…
Is this possible? How can I make that happen?
monodistortion, thanks a lot for
[nggallery id=x template=caption]!Here we go again, new version, same problem. I’ve noticed that we have a php file for the thumbnail descriptions, but none of the CSS seems to point to it.
What am I missing?
OK nevermind. I had to combine the new CSS and PHP files with my old ones, reintroduce the <?php echo $image->description ?>, and then play with the new column options. I think I’m just making things more complicated than they need to be. I’m good at that.
Could not find this anywhere, but I did look….
How do you add the Gallery Title to the gallery.php page?
I am using<?php echo $gallery->title ?>but nothing is showing, no matter where I place it in the file. Using WPMU 2.7.1 and NGG 1.0.2Thanks
I have set this up and it’s basically working but with at least one glitch.
I have the alt/text/description showing the text under each image. However, if I set the pagination to a number, when one clicks over to the next set of images using the navigation on the bottom, there is no text under the pics. It works as long as I set the pagination to zero but that makes for a very long page of images for some galleries.
Does anyone know how I might fix this?
Thanks,
MCSame as MouseClicks.
Using [nggallery id=x template=caption] if you set Number of images per page: 0 (will disable pagination, all images on one page) you get the descriptions. Set pagination to a number, say 4, then you get the descriptions on the first page only. I’ve made no changes to the NextGEN code. WordPress 2.8.1, NextGEN 1.3.5. Anybody else seen this?
I know this is a completely lame question… but can someone give me blow by blow answers as to how to get this look in my next gen gallery?
http://nextgen.boelinger.com/templates/example-4/
I have all the stuff downloaded, but I have been trying so hard to work out how to make next gen gallery look how i want it too and im ready to give up. Its really not easy. Im sorry if you guys have all answered this before.
any help would be rad.
Further to my comment above, you can see the behaviour in the NextGen Gallery template demonstration for captions. First page ok, go to second page and the captions are gone. Click back to the first page and its captions are gone too! Do a browser refresh there, and the captions reappear.
monodistortion, thanks a lot for the simple tip to “display the thumbnail description under the image” = [nggallery id=x template=caption]. So very effective. Thanks : )
But,
by implementing this solution – it effects a different solution, which i really need; “having the image thumbnail direct on click to a foreign URL” = see solution in these post (http://home.yourconame.com/nextgen-linking-image-to-url/2009/archives) or (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/232797)
So, can anyone plz help me to achieve both the above solutions concurrently !!!
Unfortunately, i dont know PHP, so i’d really have to be led by the hand : (
Plz, plz, plz help – i really dont want to go back to Joomla !!! : p

Jonny (jonny1975@hotmail.co.uk)Hi, sorry to be a pest !!! But does anyone have any idea how to resolve my problems ?????
1) “display the thumbnail description under the image”
2) “having the image thumbnail direct on click to a foreign URL”
As outlined in my previous post, i can do each of these elements independently (AND I CAN HAPPILY ASSIST ANYONE THAT NEEDS HELP ON ANY OF THESE ELEMENTS), but not together (which is what i really need !!!)
Many, many, many thanks in advance for your assistance.
