[Plugin: Google Maps] API Key not valid

    Help!
    Every click in the admin area of my wp installation is followed by an alert:

    “This web site needs a different Google Maps API key. A new key can be generated at http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html.”

    Apparently there is nothing wrong with the key.
    The plugin “Google Maps for WordPress” says the key is valid.

    How can I switch off the alert?
    It drives me mad …
