[Plugin: Google Analyticator] code inserted in my header?

I have 2.8.4. My header.php begins with a php include statement, which cannot have anything before it. I have chosen to put the analytics in the footer. And, I have played with all options. Still, whenever I activate the analyticator plugin I get an http 500 server error and my site will not display. When I delete the php code mentioned above, the site displays. I manually installed the latest version today as the automatic installer did not work for me. Is there anything else I can do to get the plugin working? Thank you for any help.
