[Plugin: 404 to 301]
-
Hello WordPress-ers,
My name is Brian. I am relatively new to working with WordPress. I have a personal blog at http://www.brianzulbertiesq.info which I am using as a sort of experiment/tool to aid my personal understanding before I try my hand at larger websites.
There is a lot that I don’t understand on this topic, so please excuse the length of my post. If there are any other resources that are on point for my questions, feel free to shoot them my way too.
About a month ago, I was browsing through Google’s Web Master tools when I noticed I had two separate web properties listed- http://www.brianzulbertiesq.info and brianzulbertiesq.info. Despite the fact that both domains lead to the exact same site, I was told that my link juice was being split two separate ways. I picked http://www.brianzulbertiesq.info and designated it as the preferred domain. However, I was told that this only solved half of the issue.
I was told that I needed to redirect all traffic that arrived at brianzulbertiesq.info (and almost no traffic arrives but that isn’t the point) and point it towards http://www.brianzulbertiesq.info. I assumed that this would be required for every page on my site because you can access every single page regardless of whether you type the www. I hired someone from Upwork to implement these redirects because, again, I am still very inexperienced in dealing with these matters.
From then until now, I just assumed that the issue had been taken care of and I turned my attention elsewhere. This morning I was aimlessly exploring through the back end of my website when I stumbled upon the 404 to 301 plugin menu and saw that there have been 65 error logs. That is thirteen pages of error logs. The 404 paths include everything from tags to sitemaps to my contact and resume pages.
I want my site to be completely error free. Not so much because I’m anal or a perfectionist as because I want to learn everything that is going on here, one issue at a time. It looks like one option is just to select all of the errors and bulk delete them. Each one also has an “default” option under the redirect column.
Sorry for the length again. Now that you understand my position, any advice, guidance, or referral to other resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
