Plug-Ins

Quick question. I recently have uploaded some new plug ins to the wp-content/plug ins directory, but when I log back in to my admin section I cannot get them to show up in my plug-ins available. Any ideas.
I can check the file manager and they seem to be in the file, but apparently they aren’t showing up for some reason.
