    I think this is the version…it is hard and not obvious to ascertain. I got this version # by going to the wordpress symbol at top left of screen within the U-Designer (circle with W) and choosing About WordPress.

    anyhow…this is my question…and i really appreciate any help that can be mustered…

    I am helping a friend. I have done lots of web programming but never with wordpress. I can do several of the tasks asked of me using the Web Creator/Designer tool for their site, however, I need FTP to work. We contacted the company hosting this site, and I was told I simply need to ad an FTP password. I do not have access to the server? just the Dashboard? Where in the heck do I specifically enable an FTP password in Dashboard? I appreciate your time. Is there a plugin that should be present for this to work?

    In particular I need FTP access to achieve proper definite placement of the favicon.ico as the U-Design tool / Web Creator does not allow me to be specific enough nor can I verify proper placement without seeing the full site listed in directory form. But if there is any other way to do this without FTP, I would be open to an alternate route.

    Thankfully,

    Brandon @ Ascension ITS

    3.5.1 is the version….

    We contacted the company hosting this site, and I was told I simply need to ad an FTP password.

    In my own case, the username and password for FTP (actually SFTP having more secure) access at the server is the same as for my entire account (cPanel) at the server. However, maybe they were suggesting something along the order of going to cPanel and adding a secondary FTP account (again, preferably with an SFTP connection) for use by FileZilla or a similar file manager installed there on your machine.

    Thanks for responding. I have tried that….in specific I am using this and sftp since you suggested it in filezilla as this is the ftp client most troubleshooted and used to explain access via ftp for wordpress by wordpress:

    credentials are:

    host: ftp://lapineins.com and sftp://lapineins.com
    using my ADMINISTRATOR level (and this is verified) credentials with standard U-Design login password for Dashboard access
    using port 21

    do i need to specify TLS (implicit or explicit perhaps)?

    it seems like it acknowledges the request which would seem to indicate FTP is active, or no? if you go to a browser for instance and type: ftp://lapineins.com it is responding to that protocol which I believe means ftp must be enabled?

    thanks for your input very much

    FTP is not part of WP and there is no place in the Dashboard for FTP.

    Have you looked at this:

    Yes, this has nothing to do with any WordPress login.
