Do you intend to keep the old site running longer term?
Yes, I want to still retain the old site.
or is it that I cannot use wordpress to manage the old site?
and the only solution is to start afresh??
There’s no problem with running more than 1 site under a single domain. I’ve run 4 quite happily before now.
Since the new site won’t be taking over root, whatever you chose for its folder name will be visible as part of its url all of the time.
Sincerely, I am still sceptical about doing this.
for example, I have /home/abc directory running presently.
now, can i create another a new one like /home/abdefg
if I create a new directory/folder, won’t I have two website running on same domain?. The goal is to have one website and one domain name.
Please, throw more light.

Yes

Yes
The goal is to have one website and one domain name.
When I asked you if you wanted to keeep the old site running long term, you said you did.
Please clarify exactly what you want to do and what you want to achieve long term.
…lets start from scratch again
Existing
-my domain resides in cpanel
-I have a website presently running. the person who built it uses dreamweaver to manage it according to him.
-There is an existing database (abc) which I don’t have access to.
-There is an existing directory (/home/abc)
Future Goal
-I want to take ownership of that website using wordpress.
– I want to still retain the present website
-instead of using dreamweaver to manage the website, I want to use wordpress
-I want to have one domain and one website
for example: Domain (abc.com)
Website (abc.com)
what are the steps needed to achieve this future goal??
I don’t know if you get me still??
Hi ,
So you are not using wordpress on your existing site.
If you want to use wordpress you will have to install it and then create a custom template
I’m not sure but i don’t think you can import the exisiting site database to wordpress becouse it has another structure .
Hi Pookie156,
Thanks for your input. What do you mean creating a custom template??
Also, if I want to do the installation, do I install on the root directory i.e abc.com??
Will that affect the already existing website?
No you cannot install on your root directory if you already have 1 site running there.
You have to create another folder for wordpress.
Do you want to keep your design the same as your exisiting site? If not you can download free themes or buy them online.
