• I have a self-hosted WordPress site. It’s been running for 5 years, has accumulated thousands of pages, etc.

It has always been under the default permalink setting (http://obscuresound.com/?p=123), but I want to change it to category/title-of-post. My question is, how can I make this change without breaking all of my interweaving links? I have internal pages linking to various other internal pages, embedded into the post.

Is there automatic redirection for a case like this? Any app I can use that will do this? I would appreciate any discretion before making this move.

    Thanks.
    Mike

  • I’m not 100%, but I believe the links will still work

the ‘pretty’ permalink just redirects to the post….

For instance, I’ve had pretty permalinks forever, but if I type in rvoodoo.com/?p=1390 it redirects to rvoodoo.com/2010/10/mix-of-the-moment-the-glitch-mob/ automatically, which is theproper post for that ID

You can always change the permalinks, and try it out. If it breaks anything, switch back
