Page doesn’t use template selected

I’ve created custom template pages in my themes folder and have been selecting them as I was creating pages and they worked just fine. For some reason I have specific pages now that no matter what they refuse to use the template that is selected under template on the right side. I can’t figure out why. First it was pulling up a the file image.php in the theme folder. I deleted that file and it started using attachment.php so I deleted that file now it’s using page.php. I don’t want to delete that since other pages actually use that file. Any reason why specific pages would refuse to use the template selected? Especially if other pages under the same parent have no problems with it?
