overwriting vs. overriding

setting up my wordpress site using a child theme from the reflex theme and I am pretty novice with css & html… wondering if i should overwrite or override?

I know that overwriting gives me access to future theme updates from the parent theme, but i’m wondering if that ends up messing folks up more often than not.

Any advice/wisdom on this topic is much appreciated!
