First, be sure your host hasn’t changed or updated something.
WP- Slimstat has been a conflict for a lot of users.
If that’s not it, I’d deactivate all plugins and reactivate one by one, testing in between with a test user.

Thanks for your swift reply.
It seems that i made one mistake: The e-mail adress I registered as a test account turned out to be routed somewhere else – so it actually worked just as it should. Three more tests show the same. Also with all plugins active as before.
SO, for the other users who haven’t recieved any password e-mail, could there be other explanations than
– that they’ve misspelled their e-mail address,
– that a spam filter has catched the password e-mail
-…?
After all, three (all) new users have reported the same problem after I upgraded to WP 2.2 – and I’d like a system as streamlined as possible…
Thanks,
Kjetil
Hi Folks,
New user with the same problem, NEW , FRESH install.
NO addon;s, NO plugin, NO added thems, everything stock install. E-Mail correct, however, a test reveals a new user is added to the database and NEVER receives the e-mail password. Seems to me that this is a fundamental requirement. We have a nice blog setup, where no one can reply becasue they never receive their passord. hummm..Where shoudl we look..A reply would really be appreciated.

owrd.
Check to see if your hosts has disable php mail function. If so you might have to use a plugin like this.

On a side note, most users find it annoying to have to register to comment and therefore won’t. A better way would be to allow anyone to comment and simply install good spam protection.
Jeremy,
thanks for the reply… PHP mail functions are ok.
Why would I have to add something. I thought that was the whole idea. WP was designed to offer us the option to require users to register or not…We are afraid we will have “bad users” reply with junk or even worse , bad language. Can you think of places I should look to correct the issue ? This really was a clean install at bluehost.com. First time… nothing added.. Stock all the way.. even a new e-mail address created… I am at a loss as to waht to do next ? Abandon WP and opt for another..Blus Host has several blog apps to choose from… Any suggestions ? I really d appreciate your expertise..
THANKS !

I’ve heard of some hosts require you to add an account to your mail server for wordpress to use. Try adding wordpress to your mail accounts and see.
Jeremy,
Amazing… see that is what a bit of expertise gives us..
We appreciate YOU being here….
NOW..I added an e-mail account “wordpress” Went to the blog as an admin, made the change there and testing by registering a NEW user…and VIOLA.. The ADMIN receid a message that a new user had joined and the user received a message containing his password. Now to test and see if everything else works…
HATS off to Jeremy !
and “I” do thank you !
I will be keeping in touch…
Many Thanks,

Glad to see you’ve got it resolved.
OH…one more thing..
I had to change the default mail port to 26.
The normal is 25 but bluehost uses 26. The default after intallation was 110.
Steve
Well, Darn…. It is doing it again…
I noticed the e-mail port was defaulted to 110..
Changed to 26 (bluehost) and it worked for 2 new registrations… NO changes… then no workie..
I changed back to 110, then to 25 then back to 26…DARN again… Admin IS receiving e-mail notification that a new user has registered but the user is Never notified… crap… This should not be a problem..I would think that the user registration should be set in stone…rock solid..work everytime..etc… Now darn again… I have not changed anything else… I do NOT tinker with code.. new install… I just wanted this to work so a local environmental website could share ideas and problems… crap… Any and ALL ideas would be so very welcome…

If it was working then it stopped then your host must have done something. Check with them.
