Notification of posts requiring moderation

I want to use post moderation to allow users with a role of contributor to create posts and have an administrator review them. This part works fine.

Unfortunately, I can’t figure out how to get WordPress to send a notification email to the administrators when a post is held for moderation like it does for comments. The dashboard doesn’t even indicate that there are any posts held for moderation, so unless I continually login and click on Posts I’ll never know that a post is pending. This is not a great work flow.

I searched the forums and found no solutions.

It seems like such a simple and obvious thing that I can’t imagine it’s not a feature of WordPress. Am I missing something? I’m a newbie so it’s certainly possible.
