• How does the rating result of a post get calculated? I have set up one rating item for attachments. Users can rate attachments, and there are results shown in “Rating Results” section for each attachment that has been rated. In that table it shows all the ratings in column “Entries”, but in column “Rating Result” it says “None” in any row. So how and when are the rating results actually calculated?

Just to clarify you’re talking about the free version?

Could be an issue with your rating results cache. Try clearing it in the tools option. Do you have any caching plugins?

The entries are saved in custom tables in the db. If cache is disabled, the db is queried to caclulcate the results. If cache is enabled, the results are stored in the post meta table for quick access and only calculated when required.

    Thanks

Yes I use the free version.

Actually I did the cache cleaning as well as trying with or without enabling cache, even before I posted this. No other caching plugins are used.

This is on WP 4.1 with MariaDB 5.5.4, plugin version 3.2.1

No support for free version users?

I try and help as much as I can. Both free and premium versions.

If you add new ratings, do you see the rating results appear? or is it still None? Is the count column showing 0?

So you cleared the rating results cache in the plugin tools? Can you try turning rating results cache off in the plugin settings?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

Hey dpowney, I sent you an email on your site, I will appreciate if you can answer me 🙂 I’m kind of in a hurry, because I want to decide to buy which plugin.
    Thanks for your time

    > If you add new ratings, do you see the rating results appear? or is it still None? Is the count column showing 0?

I just deleted any rating items, ratring results and entries, cleared the cache and added a new rating item. “Rating Results Cache” is checked. Then I went to the entry and rated one attachment. Now on settings page “Rating Results” there is one entry in the “Rating Results” tab, showing in the “Entries” column “1” and in the “Rating Result” column “None”.
Then I went back to the attachments pages and again rated the attachment. Now the “Entries” column shows “2”, but the “Rating Results” column still “None”. Again cleared the cache in plugin the tools, “Rating Results” column still shows “None”.

    > So you cleared the rating results cache in the plugin tools? Can you try turning rating results cache off in the plugin settings?

So I went and unchecked “Rating Results Cache”, cleared the cache again, just in case. Applied a rating on the attachment. “Entries” column shows “3” now, “Rating Results” still none.

    Why isn’t it calculating?

Also, when I apply the shortcode [display_rating_result], it says “no results yet” in the frontend

Appreciate your analysis. Have you tried creating a new rating form and new rating items then seeing if new ratings are calculated?

I have a feeling this could be caused by adding or removing some rating items in between ratings.

Am I able to gain access your database and WP-admin to investigate? Please send me an e-mail using my contact form danielpowney.com/contact

    Thanks,

Sorry for not replying so long, but this had been urgent, so I had to figure out something else.

Unfortunately I cannot grant you access to that particular system, but when testing in a fresh installed WordPress instance it did work alright. So this has obviously been interfered by some other project-related issue.

Will try to set up a test environment with the data of that project and get back to you soon.
