No pages

Hey,

after completing a site for a client, they asked me to add a second language to the site. I first used WPML but didn’t like the options so I deactivated and deleted it. After that I tried polylang and when I activated the plugin all of my existing pages disappeared. When I go to the pages tab in the backend there are only the polyang generated homepages available (seen or editable) but at the top it still says like I have 40+ pages, they’re just nowhere to be seen.

I tried the lingotek rout of assigning the default language to content but nothing happened. What am I missing?
