Hi Frank,
Thanks for getting in touch about this.
When this happens, it usually means the geo-IP database didn’t get installed properly. This can happen because of server permissions, but it is easy to install manually instead.
You can download the file from here: download geo-IP database
You’ll get a file called iawp-geo-db.zip that you can upload to the following location on your server: wordpress/wp-content/uploads/
If you see the zip file is already there, this means the server had trouble unzipping it. In this case, you can simply unzip it instead of uploading a new copy.
Once uploaded and unzipped, your visitors’ geolocation will be tracked.
Thanks for your help and prompt reply
You’re welcome! Stay in touch if you need anything else, and I’ll be happy to help.
I also don’t get geo data. Checked /uploads/ folder and there is a iawp-geo-db.mmdb file (102.5 MB). Any tips for me? It’s working on another site, same server. Thanks in advance!
We haven’t seen this error occur when the iawp-geo-db.mmdb file is present. Usually, this only occurs when that file is missing.
Could you try installing the WP Debugging plugin and let me know if you see any errors in the log that point to the “independent-analytics” plugin?
Downloaded the file (https://d.pr/f/Ms7f6O) and re-uploaded it to ftp and now it works. Perhaps something went sideways on installing. Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry I couldn’t debug this for you.
No problem. Thanks for letting me know the solution that worked for you.
