After I installed nextgen gallery 2.0.66.16 I started receiving the error: TypeError: jQuery(…).nggShowSlideshow is not a function.

I found the problem. I am using the plugin NextGEN Gallery Optimizer by Mark Jeldi. This plugin does not appear to work with the current release of NextGen.

Turns out the incompatibilities were reported to the other plugin author when NextGen 2.0 came out. The plugin writer is still working on a version that will work with your plugin.
