@stressed_eric – The “permissions” message would likely be pointing to the /gallery/ folders under /wp-content/ and/or your user’s permission set.
Check to ensure the user does have permission to upload (even an admin might not be able to upload if the server configuration is not in sync) but more importantly check to ensure the gallery folders are inheriting the correct permissions from wp-content … 0755 for folders and 0644 for files.
Thanks!

I have checked and had the hosting server supplier check the permissions and these are all correct.
I am still unable to upload photos and now have clients screaming at me. π
@stressed_eric – If everyone is certain there are no permissions issues at play the next thing I would suggest looking at would be conflicts with active plugins or the theme (although I must admit I cannot recall any specific conflict that presents as a permissions issue except possibly some security plugins/services).

100% checked and re-checked user permissions and tested 2-3 login that have the correct permissions.
De-activated any security plugin, deleted cache, refreshed page, none of these have made any difference.
Even rolled back the server to a couple of days ago so the gallery has now lost 2 galleries I had uploaded before this happened. 2 more unhappy clients.

@stressed_eric – That is a lot of plugins and there are a few I would expect to be creating issues as they are outdated and/or not compatible with the current version of NextGEN Gallery.
There are several more that have created issues in the past but not in the way you are describing what you are seeing … and with as many plugins you have “active” it could even be a combination of plugins causing the issue.
IF you deactivate *all* plugins, clear *all* caches (including any artifacts some leave behind), ensure the .htaccess file is back to a standard “default” WordPress requirement, and temporarily switch to a default WordPress Twenty series theme. Then reactivate NextGEN Gallery and still see this issue then please submit a Bug Report (http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/ … please reference this topic) with your site specifics so we can get a better look at this.
We will need log in and FTP credentials for your WordPress installation as well, please include those in your Bug Report.
Thanks!

Everyone of them performs a specific function.
I don’t have a default theme.
As far as I’m aware all plugins are up-to date, if your aware of any specific that aren’t compatible please IDENTIFY them.
I am not a developer, I’m an end user, reverting my website back to factory settings is going to be a non-starter for me apart from not having enough hours in the day as it is to run the business without also doing software developers jobs for them.
Clearly all this was working until the 3.9 and the latest version of NextGen so the issue lies there. So if your not prepared to find out what’s wrong in your product, how do I revert NextGen back to an earlier version?
It’s that or a complete switch to Social Gallery.
@stressed_eric – Basic troubleshooting standard procedure is what I am suggesting. This is not an uncommon recommendation when a plugin does not work as expected. I agree it is inconvenient and can be time consuming but that is just the nature of the process.
Unfortunately it also takes longer the more plugins you have active as each should be tested appropriately. As to identifying specific plugins you are using from the list you provided I would already suspect some of those do not even need to be active so I am also wondering if all of those plugins are actually active as well.
At a glance I would say there are possibly 10 different plugins on your list that have (and possibly still are) created conflicts/issues with NextGEN Gallery but even identifying those plugins does not necessarily preclude the other from the process of deactivating *all* plugins to check for conflicts. To be honest, I am not familiar with all of them so there may be some that we simply have not come across that could be contributing to the issues you are seeing.
It is also not uncommon for multiple plugins to “work together” to create a conflict where each on their own would not.
If you want to revert NextGEN Gallery to an older version you can find all of the public releases on this page: http://wordpress.org/plugins/nextgen-gallery/developers/ although it is still always recommended (in general) to stay current with all of your plugins and (at a minimum) your current theme.
If you need help with rolling back to a previous version this article may help: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/how-to-rollback-a-version/
