Next previous posts not showing

Hi
I have posted this before but got no replies so im trying again.

Im using wp 2.3.2 and have activated next previous post in the widgets in the after all entries sidebar arrangement. Nothing is showing up, not even the words next previous.

Is there anything else that needs activating?
I have deactivated the static plugin, still nothing, re activated the static plugin, still nothing.

I have read about 20 posts and can not fix this.

Is it something simple or is it code related?
Im not very good with code so a simple explanation or help is appreciated.
