• I installed today’s build (aplha 5- derived) and I have the neat “next page” option now at the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, when I click on it, off the main page, I get a 404: “requested URL /journal/page/2/ was not found on this server” (journal is my subdirectory – http://www.ckelly.net/journal/ ) when I try it off a category page, it tells me that nothing matched my criteria, even though there were another 84 entries in that category.
has anyone else tried the feature on the last couple night’s nightly builds? Is it working for you? Is this perhaps broken at this moment, or should I start mucking with .htaccess files (I know that it doesn’t apply rules to my journal directory and/ or the source to figure this out?
    thanks,
    -Chris

  • Check the permalinks option. And I don’t know what happens if the htaccess file is not writeable – is it?

no, the file wasn’t isn’t writeable. I copied and pasted the content from the page in permalinks and now it all works. Lots of changes there 🙂 What do you recommend for chmod on it?

ckelly5, can you explain further what you did as I’m having this same problem? Thanks

Use your FTP program and chmod the file so it is writeable.

idowens: find the permalinks page (options top tab, permalinks bottom). go to the bottom of the page. copy the code out of the text field, and put it into the .htaccess file in your wp root directory, overwriting anything else there. That should take care of it.
Beel: chmod *what*? gimme a number 😉

ckelley5, after making my htaccess file writeable, WP updated it, but i had to manually go in and remove the ORIGINAL rewrite that i had in there…after doing this, it works like a charm. Thanks….
