Newbie question

It is possible, but will require you to modify your theme’s template pages. http://codex.wordpress.org/Working_with_WordPress
might be a good starting point. Basically what you will be looking to do if you don’t want the other author’s on the main page is to exclude them from the index.php, or write a home.php template to do such. You’ll then need to create templates for each specific author’s posts.
I’ve personally not worked on a blog with multi-authors, so once you’ve read over some of the documentation, and perused some of the plugins http://www.wp-plugins.net/
come back to the forums and ask specific questions regarding your goal – ie, not like the current thread 🙂
