I couldn’t access my woocommerce store yesterday, so I launched a new instance with a snapshot on AWS

Then I updated woocommerce, but then it took me to a welcome screen and store prices were on $ again instead of Zar

Also, paypal was activated without me having a paypal plugin

    Is that normal?

I clicked on the paypal button and it took me to a paypal page.. but not a sandbox, an actual payment page

    Why did that happen?

    Hi @rushdie3 ,

It seems you created a new WooCommerce site after you couldn’t log in to the old site, is that right? If so, then each new instance of WooCommerce would start with a welcome screen and $ as the default currency.

Also, paypal was activated without me having a paypal plugin

WooCommerce by default includes PayPal Standard. You can find more about it here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/paypal-standard/

I clicked on the paypal button and it took me to a paypal page.. but not a sandbox, an actual payment page

    Why did that happen?

If you want to test out payments with PayPal Sandbox, you would need to enable “Sandbox” in PayPal settings. We have guidance on it here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/paypal-standard/#section-3

    Hi @wpnomad

Thank you for checking back so quick

It shouldn’t be because the snapshot of the instance was of the whole store that I took on sunday. Woocommerce was working as normal with ZAR before I clicked update.

When I saw the $ activated, I did a test purchase to see if everything else was ok, that’s when I noticed the paypal standard being on the checkout page

But if you’re saying paypal is standard with woocommerce, I’m ok with that

Just a bit confused as to why it gave me a whole new woocommerce

    Hi @rushdie3 ,

We’re not familiar with how AWS instances work, so I can’t say for sure how the site should be after spinning a new instance from a snapshot. From my understanding, the new instance should exactly be like the snapshot — and if that’s not the case, then that should be something to check on AWS end.

When I saw the $ activated, I did a test purchase to see if everything else was ok, that’s when I noticed the paypal standard being on the checkout page

That’s strange as well. PayPal Standard is included with WooCommerce core, but it won’t show unless you have configured and activated it in Payment Settings. Can you please go to WP Admin → WooCommerce → Settings → Payments and check if you have configured and enabled PayPal Standrd there?

If you want to disable PayPal Standard, you can do so from the Payment Setting page (WP Admin → WooCommerce → Settings → Payments).

    Hello again

That’s how I understand it yes, that it wont show up unless configured to do so

I’ve since deleted that instance and starting afresh because the whole feel was off and something didnt feel right.. so just for my sanity and (in case) my soon to be users safety.. I’ve started from scratch
