New Home Page?

Hi, I am new to wordpress and have a question…I am trying to implement a new Home Page. I would like to have a paragraph of text and then show a couple recent post summaries (5) that will look through ALL of our wordpress blogs. We are running MU and have a couple different blogs within the company. What is the best way to go about doing this? Thank you for your help!
