New comment notification

    One of my site visitor wrote:

    When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get three emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service?

    I was running my blog on the previous version of wordpress when I got this comment. I updated the version to 3.1.

    Although I didn’t realize there was an option to be notified of new comments,I would like to resolve the issue my visitor is having.

    Please let me know what I need to do.

    Check whether you have the Subscribe to Comments (or similar) plug-in installed, and if so, deactivate it. If any theme modifications were manually made in conjunction with the plug-in, you’ll need to find and remove them as well. Could be in comments.php theme file.

    I checked to see whether I have a subscribe to comments (or similar) plug in installed, but did not find one. I took your suggestion and looked through the comments.php theme file.

    Although I looked through each line carefully, the codes are kind of mysterious. I’m copying and pasting the comment.php below:

    OK, that’s odd. I already looked there because that’s what’s linked from your username, and I don’t see “Notify me when new comments are added” anywhere on a post. Do you?

    You might want to ask the person who said they were getting multiple copies of comment confirmations to double-check that those notifications were actually sent via your blog. Maybe they are mixed up and are actually referring to a different site. If they forward you a copy of what they received you can also double-check yourself that it’s your blog they’re talking about.
