Keep having the same problem, over different websites:
After logging in, the widget shows the login fields, not the logged in fields.
I tested whether I’m actually logged in by redirecting to a page only accessible when logged in. It is not accessible.
Only after a refresh is the logged in status a fact, and shown in the widget.
It makes no difference whether I redirect to another page or not, same problem. It has been around since a couple of versions, and there are some threads about it ( for instance), but the problem hasn’t been solved yet.

Sounds like caching – assuming you are using a caching plugin (such as W3 total cache) review your settings. “Browser caching” for example (since logged in users don’t usually see cached pages via the page cache).

    Hi Mike,
no, there are no caching plugins installed…

found that deleting the .htaccess in the root by renaming it to .htaccessbak fixed this problem on my site which is installed in a folder.
I have my wordpress site installed in a folder and not the root folder and copied the .htaccess file from the install folder to the root as instructed by WordPress for sites running in a folder not the root.
    Hope that helps anyone
