• I am making some heavy duty changes to the 2-column Vertigo template by Brian Gardner and I seem to be digging deeper holes for myself.

Here is the yet-to-be launched blog:
    http://snowless.com/wordpress/

If you can offer advice for ANY of the following, you’d make me a very happy person:

    1) It doesn’t seem to work in IE. The background color changes in the body changes and the background image doesn’t appear. Seems OK in Firefox, Safari and Camino.

    2) I don’t want the folder and file icons that appear with the links. They don’t appear in Safari, but do in all other browsers.

    3) I’d like the header to justify to the left

    4) Lose the Footer

    5) White background behind the Title and Text in each post (not the whole body)

    6) Reduce Margin % to the right of the sidebar.

    7) where do you edit the text for the “About” link at the top of the page?… or add links for that matter?

Finally… I’m a WordPress noob (clearly) migrating from Blogger. Is it possible to migrate the posts over from my blogger blog? I don’t care about losing Google Juice or Comments.

For whatever help you can offer… Thanks.

I found and fixed the issue for #1… Dreamweaver debugger caught a couple of typos.

FWIW, here is my Frankenhacked CSS style file:

Sorry.. here’s a link to the code if it’s helpful.

That’s a lot of changes, If it were me, I’d consider a different theme.
    A few answers.
    1. I’m using Vertigo for this site, http://barttersite.org/ and don’t have any trouble with IE. You might have changed something in the CSS to cause that.
    2. If you use widgets in the sidebar, the icons go away. If you want to hunt it down, look in the CSS for the the images.
    4. Go into the footer.php and take out the divs that hold the columns, leave the rest in there.
    7. The about link is a page, go to manage pages.

    Thanks a bunch Kaethy!
    That was very helpful.

I’m getting very close to where I want to be with this new layout.
The only things I’d still like to tweak are:

    2) even though I’m using widgets, I’m still getting calendar icons in the sidebar, which don’t bother me that much, but they are stacking on the text in some browsers rather than in line with the text. I suppose I can search and destroy the code that inserts them…. tips on where to find?

    3) Justify the header to the right… possible?

    5) get white blocks behind the content headers and text (reason: to make them legible if they are squeezed to the left and intersect with the bg image)

    6) reduce margin % on the right (and thereby increase the margin % on left) to give the bg image some breathing room.

    Thanks much
