    Hello,

I am trying to extend the colored background of one of my divs the full width of the screen, like the div above it, but I am having trouble doing it.

As you can see, the background behind the main image below the header extends the full width. I would like to do the same for the div below (the one in blue #46c8d9 that says “Med at heart/Need a read”) and remove the white around it – but only for that section (I want to keep the white background on the blog posts section below).

I tried to use a ‘:before’ pseudo-element, but it doesn’t work: from what I can tell the pseudo-element is there, and at the right place, but it’s not showing the colored background I want…

I’m not exactly a css wizard… 🙁 Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You have max-width and width in several places set to 1170px. You need to override those, specifically for page and main-container. Set the width for both of them to 100%.

To add CSS: If you are using WordPress 4.7, use the “Custom CSS” option in the customizer. If your theme has a custom CSS option, use that to add the CSS shown above. If not, install the plugin Simple Custom CSS. Or, if you have Jetpack installed, enable its Custom CSS module.

Learn the Chrome Developer Tools to help you see and test changes to your CSS.
